Did you take a picture? I may have a similar issue, but my mechanical skill is “in training”.

Wait you mean wheel bearings are a wear item?

best possible outcome.

I have a grinding brake noise. I am hoping for similarly good news.

not my photo but similar. There is a brake dust shield on the rear of the rotor. Saturday I replaced my CV axle and must have hit the shield bending it into the rotor, so as the rotor turned, it rubbed against the stationary shield. What does the sound sound like? does it change pitch or tone? does it speed up or slow down with the engine or the wheel?

I can hear it “creaking” with every revolution of the wheel. Lightly applying the brakes make it super noticeable. I’ll see if I can find evidence of scoring on the rotor when I have a chance.

most common thing would be pads and possibly rotors.

There should be lots of those left. Probably got 20k km on my current set. Unless I’ve got a bad rotor/pad right it out of the box. I didn’t do my brakes, but that’s on the bucket list to learn.

last time i did an oil change I knocked off a vacuum line, car ran oike garbage and I was so confused and mad. of COURSE it was something i caused.

i suspect todays issue is similar. jammed my car full of mud and now brakes sound like they are full of mud. hoping a good cleaning will work, not a need for new parts

Awesome! Though the bearing isn't that bad, though you did just pull it all part to do those axels...

Oooooo no. To get the bearing out, isn’t bad but getting it back in is. to get it back together you need to remove the knuckle so you can use a hydraulic press to push the bearing back in. Apparently this isn’t something you can do with a rental tool from the parts store. Then there is this thing called a pinch bolt, and whatever it is, it seems to scare the shit out of everyone. I did some quick research. I looked into it enough to figure out if I’d be capable of doing it or not. I decided I could do it and that it was going to be a massive pain in the ass. I didn’t want to order anything until I pulled the wheel. I was pretty much dancing in the driveway when I saw what was actually happening.

The CV was surprisingly easy. No removing control arms or anything.
